How good are home security alarms in apartment buildings ?
Q. Are home security alarms necessary in apartment buildings. We own our condo and were considering installing a home security alarm. What do home security alarms do, what are they capable of ? Is it worth paying $ 30 a month for an alarm ? Is Brinks a good name in the alarm industry. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or ideas.

A. It really depends on the system. All of the bigger alarm companies use around the same level of product as far as quality. Be advised of the following, what the alarm companys do is sign you to a contract for years at a time. Say 4 yrs for 199.00 Right? ok and what they do is incrementally increase your monthly fee after that. The average total equipment cost for a small residential alarm system is right around that 199.00 wholesale so they lose a few bucks on the initial install to get you signed on for years at a time. They usually tie right into your phone system and if improperly installed , depending on your area they may have fines for false alarms. If you live in an area where home invasion is a possibility I would have one… [cont.]

How to hire a security guard directly without a going through a company?
Q. I work for a plumbing company and want to hire a security guard directly for the company I don't want to go through a security company. I understand that going through a security company would cost about 15$ an hour for the guard but i rather pay that to the guard himself. I need to know if there are any legal measures i must take in order to hire the guard directly?

How do you set up security on a router with two laptops - could anyone give me steps to?
Q. My roomate just moved in and I'm trying to set up the security on my Belkin router. I've had the router set up and running now for several weeks with no security. I'm confused as to whether the software for the security will run through one computer or if I have to put the software on both? Could anyone give me steps? I've read the manual but honestly it's all foreign to me. I'm horrible at anything electronic.

A. Plug your computer into the router with an ethernet cable. Run the CD that is included with your router and it will take you through some set up steps. One of these steps will set up an opportunity to set up a password. Once you have a password set up, it will ask you for it when you go to access the router. You will have the opportunity to save it on your computer, so you really only have to do it once If all else fails, I'll come over and fix it for a small non-monetary price ;-)

What kind of security systems do psyciatric wards/insane asylums have?
Q. I am wondering what kind of security systems are used in psychiatric wards, specifically for people deemed possibly dangerous. What if they are young kids/teens? Are they subjected to tight security along with the adults? What are the living conditions?
Asked by Brophy - Sat Jul 5 11:15:59 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. My brother was in a state hospital from age 18 untill his death when he was 35. Only dangerous peoples are locked up. It's not a prison so he was allowed to walk around the grounds. He could only leave the grounds with permission, and that was when we picked him up for the weekend. Unless they comitted an act of violence, they could generally walk on the grounds. There was no lock in gate around the area. However if he left the grounds, he went to lock up. I believe they had cameras, but I never seen them.

How do I disable the security mechanism in 1991 jeep cherokee?
Q. My jeep doesn't start because the security system thinks there is a breach of security. I tried using the key in the driver's door and passenger door but it doesn't help. Is there a way to just reset it or completely disable the security system? I can't tow it anywhere as I don't have that much money to pay for towing and the dealer

If you are concerned about someone tipping you off as a possible fraud case you need to first stop and ask yourself why somebody would do that. How does Social Security work in terms of additional income?
Q. I know that you are allowed to make a certain amount of money and not get taxed. If you go above that amount you are taxed. If you are working full time will they stop your payments the following year? This is something that I heard, that you can start and stop Social Security. What happens if you win a large sum of money? Will they stop Social Security?
Asked by browncat79 - Thu Apr 8 13:33:01 2010 - - 0 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I don't think they will automatically stop social security for any reason, but your tax levels might make SSI benefits less beneficial. The payments you get will be dictated by: How much you paid in (they factor your best 35 years) and when you first started to collect. Currently you have options to collect starting at 62, 65 and 70. If you start at 62, you get substantially less, not a good option overall if you live past 75. Your best options may vary based on state, income, etc, and a social security agent will be able to give you a response unique to your finacial situation, work history, and health conditions.

A. If the mail you are sending has the look of spam, then you get the character string code as a safety feature to ensure that you are a human being and not a spam bot sending out thousands of spam mailings to the world. It may be a pain but type in the code and go on as usual. Once they realize you are not sending out spam, it will stop.

Make sure you put up some stickers on your front store door saying that the place is monitored by security cameras. Can you place any of the ones you got in really obvious places so that people see they are being recorded? Sometimes when I go into a store, they have the feed from one of their cameras on a TV where all the patrons can see it. That way, it conveys that you are watching what is going on there. Secure the perimeter of your property. If there is a back to your store, consider putting in some sort of motion alarm if you don't think that people would be back there much. You… [cont.]

What security is there on a apple macbook pro?
Q. I just broght my apple macbook pro and i need to know if there is any security in it already or if i need to install it. I already installed both CDs that came with the mac. Please help me!
Asked by MrSuper231 - Thu Jul 15 19:39:52 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Security isn't something you install. It's a whole approach. If you want to make your Macbook Pro secure, do the following: 1. Use a strong password. 2. Download only open source free programs or paid programs. Do not pirate software, movies, or music. 3. Do not enable root logins, file sharing, or SSH. 4. Install Mac OS X updates regularly. Many of these are security updates. 5. Instead of Safari, use Firefox with the NoScript extension. 6. Read up on "social engineering" and how to avoid being the victim of it.

A. all depends on how much money you want to spend, the most expensive route is to get a dedicated DVR and camera package from Swann or Lorex, anywhere from $600 on up, you could also get IP security cams from Wilife and Swann. the cheapest option is to get a DVR pci card and convert an obsolete PC to a DVR. I use a Swann DVR PC guard card with a Swann bullet cam and a lorex BW all weather cam. the card is installed on an old athlon xp 2500 computer with a wireless card up in my attic, i acces via web. the swann card has good clear instructions on how to do this.

A. Sounds like you may have Norton Security Scan on your computer. It comes with the Google pack, and some other programs like adobe. When you install the program it gives you the option not to install Norton Security Scan, many users when installing programs don't pay attention to what they are doing and get programs they don't want on their computers. This happens alot with search bars in browsers. The only way to get rid of the left over Norton may be to uninstall the program that came with Norton Security Scan. Google Norton removal tool. Get it from the Norton or symantec link. Run the tool, restart your computer, then run the tool again and restart your computer. If that does not get rid of it, you will have to uninstall the program… [cont.]

What are going to be the global security issues over the next 10 or 15 years?
Q. I have a declared interest in this one - I work in supply chain security. I'm supposed to know all the answers but manifestly I don't. Is it dirty bombs in sea freight containers? Is it general stupidity allowing another group of hijackings like 9/11? Will it be coercion by kidnap. Where will be the hotspots? I'd really like to see what other people think. Even, are we taking it too far (my feeling is probably yes in we're applying it with a trowel and not using our intelligence to target risk). I see, almost daily, new supply chain security initaitives - and they're all very similar, very onerous, very bureaucratic and definitely one-size-fits-all. What would be a better approach? Do we need security at all? Love to hear from you!

A. I think that we will always be dealing with issues of terrorism and also fanacticsm, but we need to learn to communicate more than confront. This is not the wild Wild West.

A. I looked around a bit and read that ADT is probably the best bet. Sorry about all the "comedians" who feel the need to one up the last person with a humorous answer. Like they say, there is no such thing as a stupid question, but the people here prove that there's such a thing as a stupid answer. I applaud the village of idiots.

A. I just got my clearance on Friday, basicly if you paid all parking tickets, arent a felon etc then your cool. Your credit will be checked, they are looking for bills 30/60/90 days late, unpaid debts etc. I dont know how strict they are but if you look like you are unresponsible they will not give it to you When I had my interview the guy was NOT playing around. Have you had your security interview yet? And what MEPSCOM are you going to?
