How big of an advantage do minority students really have in gaining admission to Ivy League universities?
Q. How big of an advantage do underrepresented minorities actually have in gaining admission to top universities? Would a minority student with lower test scores and a lower GPA actually gain admission over a white student with a 4.0 GPA and top test scores?

A. A minority owned business is just like any other business, except that it is majority-owned by a minority. Like any other businesses, a consultant is not required but the business owner can opt to use one if deemed necessary. Many businesses have started and thrived well even without consultants. A. This is an odd question, and obviously a homework one, but in any case, any form of art serves both purposes. Art is a reflection of society and how the artist sees society. The images can create a sense of urgency that can help spur change, or it can reflect society as these changes happen.

Asked by Robert - Thu Nov 19 00:08:03 2009 - - 1 Answers - 6 Comments

A. First of all, there was no genocide in Bosnia. The only ruled case was the Srebrenica event in which the Serbs took their revenge to the point of war crime over captured soldiers and male civilians, but that equates why they went for revenge upon Dutch UN controlled Srebrenica in first place - because prior to that the Muslim military battalion under Naser Oric was hiding in the UN safe haven of Srebrenica and jumping around into Serb villages, killing civilians, captured soldiers, etc. Oric publicly said that they were to leave no prisoners. A separate issue is why you were made to think that it was a genocide. Why you concluded that after watching CNN, etc. In Bosnia the minority groups (gypsies, etc.) are irrelevant. They were no… [cont.]

A. Just go down to one of the ACORN offices and fo a fee they will tell you how to cheat your way into that level of status. They were caught red handed on film and Maobama still loves them and wants to offer them funding through health care reform. They are the experts.

Can I get a minority scholarship if I'm a caucasian student at a predominantly black university?
Q. I will be attending FAMU in Tallahassee, FL in the Fall of this year and I'm having some money troubles. A friend of mine told me that he had heard you could get a minority scholarship for being white if you are attending a school where the minority is the majority. It makes perfect sense, but is the scholarship relative to the university or the national average? I am actually half caucasian and half asian, but I don't think that helps me either way. Has anyone else gotten one of these or heard something similar?
Asked by amber - Mon Jan 25 06:27:19 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Actually, I think it does help you to be half-Asian, at least, because Asians qualify as a national minority as well as minority at your specific school (I assume). You fall under the category of "HAPA", which represents Half-Asian-Pacific-Americ an (though it has varying abbreviations). Harvard has a HAPA group that supports people of mixed-Asian ancestry; You should look for Asian-American or HAPA clubs and groups in your city, state, or prospective school that either offer scholarships or know where to point you to find some. I almost got a Chinese-American Lion's Club scholarship once when I entered one of their drawing contests in middle school (but i only won the honorable mention). You can join this forum and ask other HAPAS… [cont.]

A. Without enough Members of Parliament to vote on legislation to push through their policies, a minority government does not have the power to implement any Acts of Parliament. It is effectively toothless. Now that doesn't mean to say that they couldn't pass any Acts, just that they would need enough support from other parties to vote them through, and those parties may have other ideas about what amendments would need to be made to the Act before they would vote for it. Each Act could be held up for months whilst it was discussed, debated, analysed, rephrased, adjusted and amended before it could be resubmitted for a vote. It could become a completely different piece of legislation by the end, and the strong policies of the political… [cont.]

A. E-mail your avatar to the admissions office and tell them there's more where that came from. Seriously, though, he should just apply to the university. Once he's admitted, he will be offered a scholarship (or a chance to apply for one) if he's eligible for one.

Q. How did the minority groups struggle for civil rights begin in the 1950s? Which event from this time do you think was most responsible for bringing public attention to the American Civil Rights Movement? Explain why you selected this event.
Asked by MissQueenBee - Sun Nov 23 19:52:58 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The Civil Rights Movement is sometimes defined as a struggle against racial segregation that began in 1955 when Rosa Parks, the "seamstress with tired feet," refused to give up her seat to a white man on a bus in Alabama. Brown v. Board of Education, the 1954 Supreme Court case that attacked the notion of "separate but equal," has also been identified as the catalyst for this extraordinary period of organized boycotts, student protests, and mass marches. These legendary events, however, did not cause the modern Civil Rights Movement, but were instead important moments in a campaign of direct action that began two decades before the first sit-in demonstration.
