Why do most americans like to judge others without even knowing them?
Q. When am refering to them, it means mostly non americans and other countries... I always read everywhere that americans don't like it when they judge each other. But it happens that they are the first ones to judge others when it comes to non americans! Why is that? Americans like to judge the French, British, well every non americans actually and that too without even knowing them!

How did the french help the americans during the american revolution?
Q. I'm writing an essay for history and my assignment sheet says "You are a french citizen and you want the americans to help you fight against britian. Write an essay trying to convince america to side with you." I'm basically saying in my essay how we (the french) helped the americans during the american revolution against the british and that they "owe" us. How did the french help the americans during the american revolution? And any more ideas?

A. One thing to keep in mind: French aid came to us because men like Benjamin Franklin and Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais persuaded King Louis XVI that it was in the interest of France to lend a hand. From Louis' point of view Britain was the enemy, and promoting rebellion in the colonies was a just cheap way to cause trouble for George III.

Do you think Americans dehumanize those who are different?
Q. I've noticed this among a lot of different Americans. I'm an American myself, however it frustrates me to see others say things about illegal immigrants, Arabs, Muslims, and numerous other groups. I think a lot of Americans dehumanize these people so that they don't have to look at individual situations and see that it's not just "some illegal immigrant" but a REAL person. What do you think? Do Americans tend to dehumanize those who are different from them?

A. It's not just Americans - it's humans in general. We have a "pack"mentality, and tend to stick with people like us. Whether or not it's intentional, we tend to shove the misfits out in the cold because they make us uncomfortable.

Why do Americans make such a big deal when others are arrested for entering other countries illegally?
Q. It seems a bit hypocritical considering that most Americans would advocate that we also arrest anyone who enters our nation illegally. Why should Americans be above the rules in other countries?
Asked by Shara - Tue Aug 4 09:00:10 2009 - - 13 Answers - 0 Comments

A. They are not and shouldn't test their visitation. Every country has their rules and laws. It is up to the person entering a new country to know their rules. Otherwise, the worst scenario is you could get into trouble. Sometimes, Americans feel they are superior because they are from the U.S. This is called the "ugly American syndrome." However, the U.S. is doing a pretty lousy job of protecting our boundaries--which is the other side of the coin. Then there are the people who have been arrested and put in prison like the two young women journalists. They should not have been their, but the issue is they took a chance going into a dangerous country (especially for Americans). We all know they meant no harm, but they were careless. … [cont.]

A. More than the press would have us think. When the public address system at a recent motor sports event I attended went silent during the National Anthem, I was moved by the crowd, who raised their voices high and continued the song until its end. That is the America that the press doesn't cover, and it is not confined to motor sport events. I suspect similar would have occurred in most venues where Americans gather, short of colleges and universities, where such patriotism is frowned upon.

How many Americans are killed every year by drunk driving and criminal illegals?
Q. Some people claim that I am racist for asking this question. Even though I married a girl from Mexico. Some people have estimated thousands of Americans are killed by illegals every year. I was told that only an idiot who listens to Glenn Beck would believe that. Even if it's only a few hundred Americans killed every year isn't that too much? Those people would still be alive if the illegals had never entered the country.

A. Interesting question, one which I think deserves a proper answer. I hope someone has some numbers. I'd just like to add that since the hispanics and their supporters/apologists are quick to point out that hispanics are NOT a race, your question therefore cannot be "racist". I hate when people throw around baseless charges of racism when they mean bias. But "racist" has a much stronger ring to it, I guess. Secondly, when people say that driving regulations should be tightened for ALL drivers, regardless of immigration status, I agree whole heartedly. I don't agree, however, when they suggest that the immigration status of the driver is inconsequential. Sure, people get killed by all sorts of people every day. Senior citizens,… [cont.]

Why many Americans are acting like they are above others who are not Americans?
Q. Many Americans are very cocky and they are acting as they are higher than any other human beings. That's the truth. Only a very small percentage of Americans that are nice, maybe only 0.01% of them are nice and friendly. They think just because they were born as Americans and can act anything they want and treat others badly? Even, the American employees of businesses that deal with customers are acting differently with customers who are not Americans. That's discrimination! They said they don't discriminate anymore and they have the best customer services, blah blah blah... However, it's just words that come out from the mouth and not the real fact. They said they have the best human right, but the truth is showing differently. … [cont.]

A. If we changed the way welfare and unemployment worked (many take advantage of the system), people might not have the luxury of turning down a job like they do now. I've worked at plenty of jobs that aren't "my ideal job". We should change the mindset of the unemployed worker.

How do Americans who are black feel about the current gay movement equating being gay to being black?
Q. Just curious, because gays say they are born this way. My issue is here; gay people still had to make a choice to participate in "gay" acts. This is similar to drug addicts. They feel they are born that way, so should we make smoking crack suitable for public venues, like at church or the mall? I don't agree that being black and being gay are the same, but just similar in the ways where both have been discriminated against, both have had the bible used against them, and both have had it where they couldn't be with and marry to the person they loved. The last part meaning when a black wanted to be with someone who was white. And even in slavery where it was more like they just had blacks breed... And sure gay people could fight being gay and hide it, after all it's not like 50 years ago there less gays than there are now, it was just more people fought it and lived a lie where as now, gays won't. How come Americans and Canadians only visit the coastal areas in Mexico?
Q. When you hear Americans and Canadians talking about where they went on vacation for the winter, they often say Mexico, but they only say they visisted coastal cities like Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Cancun, etc. But you rarely here them talk about visiting the capital Mexico City or other big inland cities, like Guadalajara or Monterrey. Why do they like staying on the coast and not travel further inland?
Asked by James - Fri May 21 11:20:22 2010 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. For visiting=coast For retirement=inland (Chapala, San Miguel) Most Americans and Canadians like to stay in enclaves either way, in order to avoid mingling with the natives and learning Spanish. They want to import their culture as much as possible and "have it both ways" (cheap vacation, better cost of living, but with the same culture). It's the same when Mexicans flock to places where other Mexicans are in the US. You don't see Mexicans settling down in droves in places like Maine. Also, when going to visit in the US, they are more likely to hit tourist spots as well (Miami Beach, Venice Beach, South Padre Island), and not go to places like East St. Louis or Compton, CA.
