What is the largest possible distance between speaker B and the observer?
Q. Suppose that the separation between two speakers A and B is 3.90 m and the speakers are vibrating in-phase. They are playing identical 148-Hz tones and the speed of sound is 343 m/s. An observer is seated at a position directly facing speaker B in such a way that his line of sight extending to B is perpendicular to the imaginary line between A and B. What is the largest possible distance between speaker B and the observer, such that he observes destructive interference? i need math. not coments about how it cannot be done.

A. For destructive interference the distance from the two speaker must differ by /2; 3 /2...etc Now for a frequency of 148hz the wavelength is 343/148 = 2.318m Now the distance to speaker B is x and the distance to A would be sqrt(x^2 + 3.5^2) so sqrt(x^2 + 3.5^2) - x = 2.318/2 = 1.159 so x^2 + 3.5^2 = (x + 1.159)^2...so x^2 + 3.5^2 = x^2 + 2*1.159x+ 1.159^2 simplifying 3.5^2 = 2.318x + 1.343 So x = (12.25 - 1.343)/2.318 = 4.71m

How to play a better B and C on the clarinet?
Q. I mean the middle B and C (the two just over the break with most fingers shut). I have played for a few years and I want to know what to practice to make my B and C come out more easily and so I can play them quickly.

A. Breath support is usually the answer. Make sure you are sitting up straight, and breathe in deeply. Push from your diaphragm. Try putting more mouthpiece in your mouth.

How can I more easily hit B flat 3 on the bassoon?
Q. Everytime I play, I have trouble hitting the B flat right above the bass clef staff. I'm doing the proper fingering, but it always wants to drop to the B flat one octave down. Any advice as to how I can make it stay at that pitch?

A. See if the tiny hole in the bocal is plugged. Open it with a toothpick or GENTLY with a needle. If it's not that, then it's your reed.

How much will the piston be pushed up point b compared to its height at point a?
Q. The gas in the engine is heated to a higher temperature. As the gas is heated, it expands pushing the syringe piston up. Let's assume that this process is isobaric. The temperature of the gas at point a is 20.2 C, and the gas temperature at point b is 59.7 C. If the diameter of the syringe piston is 1 cm and the volume of the gas at point b is 26.1 cm3, how much will the piston be pushed up at point b compared to its height at point a?
Asked by Blue - Sun Nov 29 14:41:44 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. PV/T is constant. In a constant pressure process, V1/V2 = T1/T2 ==> V1 = V2T1/T2 = 26.1*(20.2+273.15)/(59.7+ 273.15) = 23.003 cm^3. Take the difference between this value and 26.1 cm^3, and divide the result by the piston area. The result is a piston stroke length of 3.097/(pi*0.5^2) = 3.944 cm.

What does the coefficient "b" stand for in a standard quadratic equation?
Q. I mean in a graph, what does it stand? How does the b change how the parabola looks?
Asked by trecko a - Mon Oct 20 18:13:39 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. it is the number that proceeds the x term. in x^2+2x+1 it would be 2. It changes the graph located around the origin, or when x is relatively small either positive or negative. Once x gets really big or really negative the x^2 has much more dominance over the range and the graphs will be more similar.

A. What a shame that grown-ups have so misguided their children, and made them so competitive at such a young age, that they get so upset and worried about such a thing as this. Your B, sitting atop of history of A's, will not hurt you one bit... especially if you keep-up nearly all A's, with only an occasional and rare B; and no C's or D's or F's. Relax. You'll be fine. Just do the best you possibly can. It is, indeed, very competitive, but you're already in the top group. Just keep it up. But have a life, too. Everything in moderation... even school. How much start A should give B so that the race ends in dead heat?
Q. A and B have a race on a circular track of 510 meters.A who runs faster meets with B in the middle of the 5th round. Now in a 3 kM race how much start A must give B so that the race ends dead heat, i.e. A and B reach the goal at the same time.

A. what do you mean by the fifth round, do you mean the fifth lap? I am interpreting your question to mean that A completes 4.5 laps when B completes 3.5 laps. This means that A travels 45/35 or 9/7 faster than B. Thus, we can write the distance equations for A and B as: A must travel x+3 km in the same time as B travels x km; A travels at 9/7v and B travels at v, so: x+3=9/7 vt 3=vt =>t=3/v substitute this expression for t into the first equation and get: x+3=9/7v*(3/v)=27/7 x=27/7-3=6/7 km A must start 6/7 km farther back; or A must travel 9/7 farther than B to finish at the same time, and 9/7x 3 = 3 6/7 km

What's the difference between Hep B, and Hep C and A?
Q. Which is the more dangerous and/or terminal and if someone has Hep B, what is their life expectancy? How easy is it to contract Hepatitis? Can you get it by just spending a lot of time with that person?

A. Hepatitis A is contracted through ingesting contaminated food or water. It resolves on its own with no major future consequences. Hep B is contracted through sexual contact and blood. There is a vaccine to prevent transmission. It can cause liver disease. Hepatitis C is contracted through blood contact and can lead to liver failure and cancer. There is no vaccine or cure. There are treatments.

How does one differentiate between stomach pain from taking Plan B and stomach pain from an ectopic pregnancy?
Q. Stomach pain is a typical side effect of taking Plan B but there is also a small risk for an ectopic pregnancy, which has a symptom of stomach pain. How does one tell the difference? What other symptoms would indicate an ectopic pregnancy rather than just typical side effects of Plan B? Thanks.

A. Plan B prevents pregnancy just days after the woman has sex. An ectopic pregnancy takes just as long to implant as a normal pregnancy, 7-10 days. An ectopic pregnancy has pain located mostly on one side and may move to the center of the abdomen. It's extremely tender and the woman may have nausea and dizzyness. Hope that helps.

Can I feed a 12mth old neutered b itch terrier a light diet?
Q. Or is still a bit to young. I am concerned that she may get a bit over weight as she has been done. She is very active and likes her food, will eat absolutley anything edible, but worry for when she gets a bit older she may start to fill out. She is the first b itch I have owned, all other dogs have been males, and the only one that we have had neutered. She is fed on "NUTRO" adult and or "Jameswelbeloved"adult mixed with either vegetables, pasta, rice or a small amount of tinned meat (a desert spoonful)just to take the boredom off the dry food.

A. Your b1tch has been neutered - neutered applies to either dogs or b1tches, it means neither male or female. B1tches are spayed, dogs are castrated but either operation is neutering - some people think they know everything!!! Anyway, it would be far better for your girl if you just cut down on her ordinary food - if necessary. Just feed her as normal or cut down on what she normally has if she appears to be putting on weight. Many people who have tried these "light" diets have found it makes no difference to their dog's weight anyway.

A. plan be is only effective within the first 72 hours of havin unprotected sex. birth control hasn't been proven to do anything during pregnancy. and after a miscarriage its very easy to get pregnant again because everything is open and still very fertile down there so yes she is probably pregnant again and i would suggest that u go see a doc soon because i dont kno the effects of plan b during early pregnancy. hope everything works out for u:) hope i helped. and please vote for a best answer

Can contributing to a 403(b) lower my income so that I can then contribute to a Roth IRA?
Q. Maybe the question is kind of confusing, here are the specifics. I'm gonna make $115k this year. This puts me just barely above the limit for being able to contribute to a Roth IRA. I love to save money, and I love putting money into the Roth. BUT, I became eligible to contribute to a 403(b) this year. I can put away up to $15,500. If I put the full amount into my 403(b), would my gross adjusted income then fall to $99,500, making me eligible to put the full $4k into a Roth IRA?

A. Yes everything you said is correct. If by some chance you goof and your income goes over $100K, you can convert the Roth to a nondeductible traditional IRA by the due date of the return, and then move it back into a Roth in a later year when your earnings are below $100K.
