How many know of a senior citizen who has experienced age discrimination?
Q. I, only months ago, experienced age discrimination by a large retailer. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has adopted specific guidelines to protect employees and job applicants against age discrimination. "Age" discrmination is in the company of other criteria which, if used in whole or part to make a decision to reject an applicant from a job and/or promotion, (race, creed, national origin, color, sexual orientation, gender, health, and/or appearance) are grounds for filing complaints with the EEOC. I believe my case is not unique. I am soon to be 65; in excellent mental and physical health. I say this because many jobs require lifting up to predetermined weights and other physical criteria such as climbing ladders, [cont.]

A. Well, I'm certainly not 65 years old, but I filed against my former place of employment last year on a number of grounds including the Age Discrimination Act. My position was replaced with a young woman close to 20 years younger than I and basically eye candy. I would love to see them prove this 23 year old has more experience than a 41 year old with over 15 years of experience. I wouldn't eliminate filing with the EEOC. Everyone told me I didn't have a chance in hell. Even my attorney initially tried to talk me out of pursuing legal action and accept the severance agreeement. Guess what? EEOC took my case. Booya!
