How should I save for retirement? IRA? 401k?
Q. I am 23 and just started receiving $512 a month compensation from the military which I will get for the rest of my life. I want to invest this in my retirement and was wondering what to do. People have been saying to put in a Roth IRA. I am in school and don't have a job so I can't do a 401k can I? Which one is better?

A. Absolutely the Roth IRA. The Roth gives you no tax deferment now (which means you'll pay tax on the principal) but, and this is really really key, you pay no tax on the interest earned over time!! And believe me, the power of compound interest is insane. It is very possible that the 512 dollars you put in this month could be work $5120 dollars when your 65, and you pay no tax on $4608 of it. Zero. No tax. Now imagine that every single month. Even at that meager amount, $512 a month (with a maximum of $5000/year), you WILL be a millionaire at 65, and with no tax debt! That truly is incredible. The longer you wait to invest, the less the power of compound interest. So much so that if you fully invest the maximum in a Roth IRA… [cont.]
